It's More Important To Be Kind Than RightBy Jim Henderson
Many theologian types in the room breathed a sigh of relief when Brian McLaren got up and modified my intro with. I'm not sure it's correct to say that it's more important to be kind than right but I can say that if you are not kind you are not right. With this we launched our two day exploration into the surprisingly controversial land of kindness. A couple of weeks earlier Dave Richards (my Off The Map co-founder) and I were discussing the focus of the event. We’ve been concerned with the drift among evangelicals towards “rightness” and I’m not referring to a political drift, I’m talking about the casual way we’ve come to embrace our primary identity as followers of Jesus as about being “right”. That’s the ground we’ve managed to stake out in our culture and everyone (Christian and unbeliever) knows it. But what is most problematic to me is that – we are proud of it....
