I heard about last years Off The Map’s
(Generous Orthodoxy) conference from a friend who is a student
at George Fox Seminary. I checked out the website and immediately
decided that I had to attend. Actually, if the website said
nothing else but that Brian McLaren would be there, I would
have been sold. So we assembled a group of six people and
drove from Eugene to Seattle in a van. It was a blast!
I've been receiving the Off the Map’s
monthly e-zine ever since I attended the conference and
that’s how I learned about the CatE blog. I visited
the blog and quickly got hooked. I like how it’s a
dialogue between Christians and Atheists and people in between.
It's good to hear diverse voices and I appreciate how everyone
is so respectful of others' views. We all need to be pushed
outside our box and we need to take time to listen to other
people. Maybe the mission of Off the Map is to start a "listening
revolution”.
I'm really looking forward to
attending the You
Say You Want A Revolution conference in November. I'm
ready to be challenged and encouraged and inspired and pushed
outside of boxes I probably didn't even know I was in! And
it will be especially fun to meet some of my new blogger
friends in person.”

Go
Out or Come In? by Peter Walker
I was just reading another article about genocide in
Darfur and feeling convicted about the suburban comfort
of my Christianity. It got me thinking of these questions:
• How often does your pastor send you out of the
church building?
• How often does your pastor urge you to volunteer
locally? Read

Taking
Ourselves Too Seriously by Jason Clark
All Christians have a solemn and moral duty to engage
in self criticism… For too long we have been unable
to criticize ourselves, taking ourselves too seriously.
